I am only selling because I want my portable scope to have a larger aperture (8-10 inch Dob) and I decided this scope is not for me (although I do admit I was surprised how well Jupiter looks through this scope). There is a small meade logo missing on one of the sides of a fork arm, but it hardly noticeable. The scope is like new and hardly used, and I tested everything to verify it works like a Meade ETX 125 should work. The optics are perfect and the views are great for a 127mm aperture scope. There is some slight faded color in the OTA, but not much at all and it still holds its purple/blue color. Overall, I would rate this scope in very good to excellent condition. The other times I used the scope I just used the manual electric controller and that too works fine with 4 speed settings. This verified that the go-to and tracking of the Autostar work as they should. It put the Orion Nebula and Jupiter right in the field of view of a 32mm Plossl eyepiece, and I tracked Jupiter using a 17mm eyepiece for 30 minutes (went inside and when returned outside, Jupiter was still in the eyepiece). I tested the go-to before placing this add with the included Autostar 497 hand controller and after the scope was put into the home position, I did a two star alignment and tested the go-to. There is some slight image shift when focusing, but nothing out of the ordinary for an SCT and it works fine. This effect may or may not be reduced when using an appropriate power supply instead of AA batteries, for I have read that these scopes are picky and like a good power supply.
I have read this is very normal for these scopes and calibrating the motors/drives using the Autostar controller can practically fix or eliminate this (scope still works fine without doing this). When using the electronics, there is some rubber banding when trying to center an object. I have only used AA batteries as the power source to the telescope, and I have read that a power supply is highly recommended for best results using the motorized mount (this scope does not include the 12v power adapter which can be found for about $20 online).
A star test shows the scope is in perfect collimation, and you can see the effect when viewing Jupiter. The glass is pristine, and in very good shape as you would expect from a scope not being used a lot.
I have only used it 2-3 times for 1 hour periods, and only used the Autostar once to make sure it worked before posting this add. I purchased this used less than a month ago on an impulse buy from an owner who never used it and let it sit with the dust cap on. For sale is a practically new Meade ETX 125 with UHTC Coatings.
